Weird LawsWeird laws… who doesn't love reading about them?  Every Friday at LawInfo.com we bring you some of the strangest laws from across the country with the readers of our blog.  I am always amazed at all the weird laws enacted in the United States, and am often baffled at the origin of some of these strange laws.  So once again, let’s take a few moments to read about a few more weird laws from across the country.  In this week’s edition of “Weird Law Fridays,” our focus will be New York and the weird laws that residents of New York must follow.  Some of these laws seem too ridiculous to be true, but they are a fun read nevertheless.  Enjoy these weird New York laws!

It Is Illegal For a Man to Go Outside While Wearing a Jacket and Pants That Do Not Match

New York: So I wonder if that means they can’t wear plaid with stripes, or plaid with plaid.  Who determines whether a man’s clothes match, anyways?  I wonder if New York police must go through extensive fashion training as a prerequisite to becoming an actual officer.  What do you think?

It Is Illegal for a Business in New York to Not Have a Spittoon

New York: According to the law, every business in New York should have a spittoon and they must also clean them every 24 hours.  Spittoons were popular in the late 19th century and were often found in public places such as bars, brothels, and saloons.  Instead of spitting on floors and sidewalks, men would spit into these containers.  Spitting in spittoons was considered an advancement of health.  If this outdated law is still on the books, it should probably be removed.  The thought of spit built up in a container sickens me.  Have you ever spit in a spittoon?  How do you feel about this law?

It Is Illegal for Donkeys to Sleep in Bathtubs

New York: Thanks for the weird law, New York!
