A 13-year-old girl named Lourdes Guzman was fatally shot on a private school bus on her way to school Tuesday morning.  The shooter was 15-year-old Jordyn Alexander Howe.  According to the news, Howe took the firearm out of his backpack and the gun went off, hitting Guzman.

Howe is being charged with manslaughter and carrying a concealed firearm.  The state intends on prosecuting 15-year-old Howe as an adult.

What happens when a child is tried as an adult?

The juvenile justice process is much different than the adult criminal system.  Children are usually tried in juvenile court.  However, if a child has been charged with a crime such as murder, all states will allow these juveniles to be tried as adults in criminal court.

Do you think Howe is entirely to blame or should some of the responsibility rest on his parents for their lack of control and discipline?
