If you are an employer and you are making over the counter medication available to your employees in the workplace you may be setting yourself up for potentially serious liability. While you might think providing your employees with an over the counter pain killer or cold medicine is simply a nice thing to do you could end up paying dearly for the convenience you are providing. Because of the risk of allergies or the affects of mixing medicines, even those every day over the counter medicines, an employer may not provide its employees with medication without exposing itself to serious legal liability. Should an employee suffer from an unfortunate reaction to the medication, by supplying such medication the employer may be held responsible for the result of the accident or mishap.
