BurglarI’ve always been a huge fan of the Nanny Cam, and now I like it even more!  The Nanny Cam isn’t only good for keeping an eye out on your child’s nanny.  It also helps catch felons during home invasions.

A 42-year-old New Jersey man named Shawn Custis was arrested after a hidden nanny camera caught him invading a woman’s home and severely beating her while her 3-year-old child trembled on the couch.  According to a news source, “A man can be seen bursting into the home, punching and kicking the woman and throwing her down stairs while her 3-year-old daughter cowered on a couch.”  My heart goes out to the unidentified woman and her daughter.

Charges Faced By Home Invader:

  • Attempted murder
  • Robbery
  • Burglary
  • Child endangerment

What Is the Punishment for Attempt to Commit a Crime?

An attempt is a deliberate act carried out with the intent to commit a crime.  However, the person’s act falls short of actually completing the crime.  Therefore the charge of attempted murder is because the woman did not die.

Just because the crime is not completed does not mean that the defendant is relieved from liability because an attempt to commit a crime is itself a crime. The punishment for an attempted crime varies by state and depends greatly on the type of crime that was attempted.  For example, an attempted murder charge would usually come with a much greater sentence than an attempted robbery charge.
