Energy drinks are no strangers to making major headlines for their negative health effects on younger people. Monster energy drink in particular has been the target of many lawsuits due to the serious health risks posed by these beverages.
The latest of these lawsuits comes from the City of San Francisco. According to Yahoo News, San Francisco's city attorney, Dennis Herrera, “is suing Monster Beverage for marketing its energy drinks to children, saying the products pose severe health risks.” Herrera refers to Monster as the "industry's worst offender" because it allegedly “aggressively markets its products to children.”
Other Officials Who Are Concerned With the Safety of Energy Drinks:
- New York's attorney general: The attorney general “subpoenaed energy drink makers, including Monster, about how the drinks are made and marketed.”
- Democratic Sens. Richard Durbin of Illinois: He has frequently asked the FDA to make inquiries about the safety of energy drinks for children.
- Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut: He has continually asked the FDA to “look into the safety of the drinks for children.”
