On 4/18/2013, Honda issued a recall of certain models of its CR-V, Odyssey and 2013 Acura RDX vehicles. According to Honda News, “In sub-freezing temperatures after initial use of the vehicle's gear-shift mechanism, it may be possible to shift the vehicle's transmission out of the Park position without depressing the brake pedal.” Therefore, Honda has issued the recall to replace a part of the brake shift interlock system.
Honda Recall Information:
- Models and Year of Recalled Vehicles:
- 128,000 Honda CR-V vehicles from the 2012-2013 model years
- 59,000 Honda Odyssey vehicles from the 2012-2013 model years
- 17,500 Acura RDX vehicles from the 2013 model year
- Reason for Recall: To replace a part of the brake shift interlock system

Complaints, Crashes, and Injuries To Date:
- To date, there have been no reported complaints, crashes or injuries related to the recalled Honda vehicles.
Instructions For Refund and Remedy:
If you or a loved one has purchased any of the recalled Honda vehicles, you should take the vehicle to authorized dealer as soon as you receive notification of this recall from American Honda. American Honda will mail these notifications to customers in mid-May 2013.
For additional information on the recall, Honda owners may call (800) 999-1009 and Acura owners may call (800) 382-2238 and select option 4. They may also get additional information by visiting www.recalls.honda.com or www.recalls.acura.com.
