Salmonella in Pet Food Products:
Last week I informed the readers of this blog of two pet foods recalls due to Salmonella contamination. I hate to be a bearer of bad news, but another manufacturer has recently recalled specific lots of their pet food products due to Salmonella contamination as well.
Natura Pet Products:
On March 18, 2013, Natura Pet Products issued a voluntarily recall of specific lots of its dry pet food due to potential Salmonella contamination. According to the FDA, “Routine testing by the Michigan Department of Agriculture collected from a single retail location tested positive for the presence of Salmonella. As a precautionary measure, Natura is voluntarily recalling all products from this production window.”
Affected Product Details:
- Expiration date: 12/17/2013 – 1/2/2014
- Dates Of Distribution: Between December 18, 2012 through March 15, 2013
- Places of Distribution: Through veterinary clinics, select pet specialty retailers, and online in the United States, Canada, Korea, Malaysia, Japan, Hong Kong, and Costa Rica.

Risk of Salmonella to Humans:
- Diarrhea or bloody diarrhea
- Abdominal cramping
If you or a loved one experiences any of these symptoms after having contact with a product with the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, please contact your healthcare provider immediately.
Risk of Salmonella to Pets:
Pets with Salmonella infections may have the following symptoms:
- Diarrhea or bloody diarrhea
- Decreased appetite
- Abdominal pain
If your pet displays any of these symptoms after consuming a product with the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, please contact your veterinarian immediately.
What to Do if You Have Been Affected by a Recalled Product?
If you or a loved one has become injured or has sustained property damage as a result of a recalled product, you may be entitled to compensation.
