How many of you are experiencing severe flu symptoms but are afraid to take a day off of work because you have no sick days? This seems to be a common problem faced by many Americans this winter season. According to an article, “more than 40 million civilian workers don’t have paid sick leave.” Moreover, a 2011 study in the American Journal of Public Health, found that “a lack of sick time helped spread 5 million cases of flu-like illness during the 2009 swine flu outbreak.”
Sick Leave Laws: Know Your Rights!
Generally, there are no laws that require employers to offer personal days or sick leave to their employees. Moreover, being paid for such is usually a matter of contractual obligations on the part of the employer. When employers do offer sick days, they will provide it as a benefit for their employees.
