A New York architecture professor was arrested when firefighters found a magazine with pornographic images of underage girls in the his Jersey Shore home after the firefighters had curtailed flames within his home, according to an article on Yahoo News.
Before noon on Tuesday firefighters received a tip that the beachfront home of 76-year old Gamal El-Zoghby was in flames. After the firefighters put out the flames they checked behind the walls of the home to see if there were any hidden pockets of flame. It was then that the magazine fell to the feet of one of the firemen.
No one was home at the time that the fire broke out, but El-Zoghby showed up soon thereafter, then went to see the local police. There the police questioned him and charged him with child endangerment, but subsequently released him on his own recognizance.
El-Zoghby who is an architecture professor at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY has since retained counsel. Both he and the school have declined to publicly comment regarding the arrest.
El-Zoghby has an extensive record in the field of architecture. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the University of Cairo in 1958 and a master’s degree in architecture from the University of Michigan in 1962. Since then his career has consisted primarily of teaching architecture, most of which was at Pratt where he had taught since 1969.
Additionally, El-Zoghby designed his house, which he said was his “dream house.” The cause of the fire is still unknown.
El-Zoghby’s lengthy stay at the Pratt Institute demonstrates that his loyalty to the school. As a result, one would expect that the University would do all that it could to try to salvage the disgraced professor’s job.
Unfortunately, here it seems that the school has no choice but to part ways with the professor. Child pornography is no joke and it is almost certain that Pratt will try to avoid their name being dragged through the mud any further.
