On Wednesday 7 teenagers were arrested in Chicago after a video of the teenagers beating and robbing a 17-year-old high school student was posted online, according to Yahoo News.
One of the teens was charged as an adult, while the rest were cited in juvenile delinquency petitions. Nonetheless, each of the teenagers were charged with one count of robbery and one count of aggravated battery.
During the greater than 3 minute video the attackers, some of which wearing sweatshirt hoods over their heads and some of the others wearing masks, are depicted repeatedly kicking, punching, and yelling at the victim as he lay in the fetile position in an alley way in the South Side of Chicago Sunday.
The video went viral thereafter, which police spokesmen Mike Sullivan said helped them to ultimately identify the attackers.
One of the arrested teens shot the video. Additionally, comments on the YouTube post helped to identify the other attackers by name. This includes 17-year-old Raymond Palomino whose face was visible on the video.
According to police reports, the attackers stole the victim’s wallet, $180 in cash and his shoes. The victim was also treated at a local hospital for lacerations to his lip as well as other bruises and abrasions.
These kids have to be some of the dumbest criminals I have ever seen. I mean how could they think that they could get away with beating and robbing somebody after they placed the main piece of evidence, the beating and robbery, online where they proceeded to identify themselves.
I mean the kids might as well have beat up the victim, robbed him, and then proceeded to walk directly to the police station to turn themselves in.
I realize that these kids are juveniles and that juveniles will often make dumb mistakes. However, all of these kids deserve to receive the maximum punishment that the juvenile system allows in order to show them that this kind of conduct is not funny, nor cool, nor condoned by society at large.
