Random Law of the Day: No Faux Tan for Minors in California

Effective January 1, 2012, anyone under the age of 18 will not be allowed to use a tanning bed in California. Prior to the law, minors 14 and older could use the facilities with a parent’s permission. The law was endorsed by the American Cancer Society.
California is the first state to pass a law of this kind. The new law deals with ultraviolet tanning beds on commercial purposes, but it is unclear what the reach of the law would be on personal premises, for example. It will be interesting to see whether other states, such as New Jersey, for example, follow suit.
Violations are punishable by fines of up to $2,500 per day.
