It has just been reported that Dean Clinic in Madison, Wisconsin discovered that a former employee potentially exposed 2,345 patients between 2006 and 2011 to blood borne diseases. Allegedly the employee inappropriately used diabetes testing materials during patient trainings. The employee taught patients how to use insulin pens and finger stick devices and apparently reused portions of the devices, though not the actual needles. The clinic discovered the inproper activity during an internal inteview.

Clinic Liable for Patient Injuries and Damages

The clinic is now contacting the 2,345 patients who were exposed to the hazardous materials. They have offered free tests to those at risk. The president and CEO of Dean Clinic, Craig Samitt says they will not only test the necessary patients, but they will ensure they are supported as well.

Under a theory of medical malpractice the clinic is liable or responsible for injuries and damages that result from their employee’s actions. If some patients develop HIV and Hepatitis, they will be entitled to compensation for their significant injuries.
