Being caught in the middle of a legal matter can be stressful, frustrating and confusing, to say the least. If you don’t know what kind of lawyer you need, or how to find a good one, then you might procrastinate… or totally stick your head in the sand. That’s because lawsuits are a scary thing to most people, but one thing is for sure… it almost always won’t just go away on its own. Do yourself some good – find a lawyer and get an initial consultation. It could literally save your job, your family, your health, your business, your property… or whatever else is at stake. Plus, since most lawsuits end in compensatory damages (“money damages”), contacting a lawyer early on could literally save you thousands…. or more.
So, first things first…. What kind of lawyer do you need? Here’s a handy reference guide (but you should always ask the lawyer specifically about his/her competency for your particular matter)… just click on the links below for information about what kinds of cases these types of attorneys handle:
•Bankruptcy Attorneys
•Business Law Attorneys
•Criminal Law Attorneys
•Drunk Driving / DUI Attorneys
•Estate Planning Attorneys
•Family Law Attorneys
•Immigration Attorneys
•Labor & Employment Attorneys
•Loan Modification Attorneys
•Personal Injury Attorneys
•Social Security Disability Attorneys
•Workers Compensation Attorneys

Next…. How do you find the right attorney for your case? That’s easy actually. You can find pre-screened and Lead Counsel Rated attorneys in LawInfo’s attorney directory. You just select the practice area and type in your area code. You’ll be directed to a list of attorneys in your area – from there you can click on the link for an attorney and be taken directly to a comprehensive profile of that attorney with information that will help you figure out if they are the right one for you. The profiles give you valuable information, including about the lawyer’s experience, education, and philosophy about how they treat their clients. LawInfo’s Lead Counsel Rated attorneys have been prescreened – which means LawInfo confirms the attorney has a valid license and is in good standing with their bar association. The attorney will provide you with detailed information about how they will handle your case, the fees they will charge, and other important matters related to their representation of you.
Now that you have some information about how to find a lawyer, you might be concerned about…. How to prepare to meet with your lawyer. Click on this link to watch the video “How to Prepare to Meet with Your Lawyer.”
Finally, prior to your meeting with a lawyer, you might be curious about the laws that apply in your type of situation and wondering….. Where you can get free legal information. LawInfo’s Free Legal Resource Center has a whole library of information for you – answers to the most frequently asked legal questions, articles and guides, and thousands of legal forms. And it’s all free!! You can either use the search bar at the top of the page – just enter keywords and phrases about what you’re looking for. Or, you can browse the library by clicking on practice area.

I didn’t see a listing for my particular problem which is: We are originally from New Orleans. Hurricane Katrina drove us from home in 8/05. We settled in Waycross, GA. My baby’s father resides in New Orleans. I have tried relentlessly, since that time to find him for child support. DFCS has tried and failed. The lawyer here says we need a lawyer in New Orleans to work on this case. Can you help. We have a non-custodial number for him but no answer.

What age is the right age for a child to decide where they want to live. My grandchild wants to live with me. She doesn’t want to live with either of her parents. :/ I live in the Dallas/Ft Worth area. My grand-daughter lives in Houston. Her mother lives in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area as well…
