The EPA [Environmental Protection Agency] recently decided to take a look at “earth friendly” playgrounds and found some disconcerting things. Despite the fact that the EPA has always backed playgrounds made of recycled rubber surfaces, they are now taking a step back. Recent finds suggest that there may be health risks involved.
The EPA’s scientists have found that repeated exposure to bits of shredded tire (which is used in these playground surfaces) can be not so good. The recycled rubber contains carcinogens and other toxic chemicals. Certainly not the stuff we want the kiddos rolling around in.
If there is a playground in your area and you are concerned about health risks your children may have been exposed to seek the advice of an attorney in your area, LawInfo can help you find one. Also, stay up to date with reports from the EPA.
