Everybody is blogging these days, so why shouldn’t lawyers? Blogging can be a great way to market for free. Offering free legal advice, or more accurately, information on legal issues, will draw attention to your practice and yourself, thereby creating leads for your business. Blogging is also a great way for lawyers to network amongst themselves.
For serious bloggers that consistently offer good, free and useful information they might find themselves the go-to person in their field, at least as free legal information is concerned. And where there is traffic to a blog there are potential new clients. Blogging seems to be the next thing in marketing, communication and information sharing. A legal practice is no different than any other business. Lawyers are in the business of selling themselves so why not jump on the blog bandwagon?
Lawyers of course have certain ethical considerations to keep in mind. For instance if the blog becomes an interactive communication source between the public and the lawyer it’s important to maintain awareness as to where the line is crossed from offering legal information to giving advice.
